Grant Village Campground Map at Yellowstone

This page explains how to read the Grant Village Campground map in Yellowstone National Park—how the alphabet loops fit together, which loops are tents only, and where to find restrooms, food storage boxes, phones, dump station, and the trail toward Yellowstone Lake and the amphitheater. It’s strictly map talk, not a full campground overview.

Grant Village Campground Map Overview

The map shows Grant Village Campground spread across a gentle hillside near the shore of Yellowstone Lake. Campsites are arranged in labeled loops from Loop A through Loop L, each with numbered sites printed next to the pads. A note near the top calls out check-out time 11:00 a.m., reminders to drop site cards in the check-out box, and a few host and accessible restrooms.

At the bottom, you’ll see the Campground Registration Office, dump station, parking, and arrows pointing toward the visitor center, amphitheater, store, marina, and other Grant Village services. All interior roads are one-way, which the legend reinforces: “All loops are one-way.”

How the Alphabet Loops Fit Together

From the registration office, the entrance road climbs into the main campground and branches into a series of alphabet loops:

  • Loops A, B, C: Closest to the registration area and parking, with several tight one-way fingers of sites.
  • Loop D (Tents Only): Just uphill from A–C, labeled “tents only” on the map.
  • Loop E: A compact loop sitting between the lower area and the larger hillside loops above.
  • Loops F, G, H, I, K: Long, curving loops further north that hold the bulk of the numbered sites, some stretching toward the lakeshore side with “Trail to Amphitheater” and “Lake” labels nearby.
  • Loop J (Tents Only): Off to the far west, another clearly marked tents-only loop.
  • Loop L: Small loop near the bottom of the map set aside for group sites.

Arrows along each road segment show the one-way direction. As long as you follow the arrows and watch the site numbers in sequence, the loops naturally bring you back toward the main split and the registration office.

Where the Tents-Only Loops Are

The map specifically labels Loop D, Loop F, and Loop J as “Tents Only” areas. These loops usually offer quieter camping with no RV generators and smaller parking pads. If your reservation is in one of these loops, double-check that you are not bringing a large RV or trailer.

On the map, “tents only” is written directly under the loop label, so even if you zoom way in, you can confirm the restriction.

Legend Icons: Facilities & Site Types

The key near the lower left corner of the map explains a handful of simple icons:

  • Telephones: Small phone symbols near the registration area and key junctions.
  • Restrooms: Square restroom icons scattered through the loops, often at loop entrances or mid-loop junctions.
  • Pull-through sites: Marked in the map with icons showing easier drive-through pads.
  • Parallel park and back-in sites: Icons indicating how you’ll position your vehicle at the pad.
  • Food storage boxes: Bear-safe locker icons, called out in the legend and sprinkled throughout the loops.

A side note on the map explains that dishwashing sinks are available at each restroom and that accessible restrooms and specific host sites are highlighted (for example near sites in C, F, and G loops).

Using the Grant Village Map to Get Oriented

To make the map work for you when you arrive:

  1. Start at the Campground Registration Office label and find the arrow indicating the entrance road.
  2. Locate your loop letter and site number in the alphabet cluster (A–L) and note whether it is in a tents-only loop.
  3. Follow the one-way arrows into that loop, watching numbers climb or descend until you reach your site.
  4. Spot the nearest restroom and food storage box icons so you know where to walk after dark.

Trails marked on the map lead toward Yellowstone Lake and the amphitheater—use these if you prefer to walk from your site instead of driving to evening programs or viewpoints.

Grant Village Campground Map FAQ

Which loops are tents only on the map?
The map labels Loop D, Loop F, and Loop J as “tents only,” meaning they are set aside for tent campers rather than RVs.

Does the map show where the dump station is?
Yes. The dump station icon appears near the bottom of the map close to the campground registration office, with a note about an additional RV dump station behind the gas station.

Can I see which sites are pull-through vs. back-in?
The legend includes symbols for pull-thru, parallel park, and back-in sites so you can anticipate how you’ll park before you arrive.

Does the map show access to Yellowstone Lake and the amphitheater?
Yes. Labels along the right side mention Yellowstone Lake, “Trail to Amphitheater,” and the amphitheater area, plus arrows toward the main visitor services in Grant Village.
